Our Research Programmes

At Strong Close Nursery School we aim to:-

Consistently use research and evidence to educate practice, and help commissioners of services and professionals to make the space to hear and effectively use that evidence.

Our teacher and Under 3s Lead Lauren Terry has completed her training as a Research Champion with Bradford's Centre for Applied Educational Research or CAER.

We are currently involved with research in these main areas:-

  1. Oral health training of our staff with the Sue Overton Applied Practice model and research into the impact with Leeds University School of Dentistry and Born in Bradford.
  2. Leading on the vision screening of pupils aged 3-4 years of age with the other nursery schools in Bradford and the Ophthalmology department of the Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.
  3. Research into the impact of storytelling sessions linked to the Keighley Imagination Library books with the Centre for Applied Educational Research.
  4. We are working with 50 Things to do Before You're 5 Bradford: Parents as Partners Project which is a three-year project supported by the KPMG Foundation where they will be working with Early Years settings, with the aim of improving the skills and confidence of practitioners in order to improve parental engagement and involvement within our setting. The 50 Things to Do Before You’re Five initiative, along with bespoke training and resources will be used as a tool to support this.
  5. With match funding from the Yorkshire and Humber Change Partnership Programme, we have helped to apply for and will be taking part in the INPP Lead Practitioner development programme, developing a team of Institute of Neuro-Physiological Psychology (INPP) Lead Practitioners. The aim is to build a sustainable model to deliver training to all educational settings across the Bradford district, focusing on neuromotor immaturity and unlocking the potential of pupils who display behavioural signs of retained reflexes. Sally Goddard Blythe, MSc (Psych), FRSA has designed a school intervention programme, developed by The Institute of Neuro-Physiological Psychology (INPP). The programme offers an evidence-based means of assessing neuromotor immaturity and an effective way to address these needs.
  6. We have enrolled on the EEF and NDNA, Maths Champion Programme. This is a professional development programme which builds the knowledge of nursery practitioners to support children’s early mathematical development.
